Birria Barbacoa de Chivo Los Compadres
Birria Barbacoa de Chivo Los Compadres - wow. Starting this off with a 5/5 from both Sarah and me.
This was a spot we stopped at for lunch on our way out to Austin. We were thinking something Cajun, like a classic Jambalaya or Étouffée, but came across this place on maps and I had recently tried making Birria style tacos and loved them.
For those unfamiliar with Birria, it is essentially a Consommé, usually from Goat.
We both got the special because that’s what you do. The taco was a corn tortilla with a light cheese, and some marinated beef. The tortilla was a perfect combination of chewy and crisp, and dipping it in the Birria was delightful.
The sides were refried beans and a spiced rice, which were good - not amazing but certainly on par with the rest of the meal.
For sauces there was a tomatilla salsa and a smoky chile sauce. Not much to say here, just really good.
And that’s it. If you’re travelling in the area it is worth the stop. I’d have added 30-45 minutes to a trip I was taking to eat here!
